Sung-ki Jung is a relief pitcher currently in the Atlanta Braves organization. He was originally signed by the Braves on June 7, 2002, after being scouted by Phil Dale and Jerry Lee. He played one game that year, for the GCL Braves. In two innings of work, he was perfect, allowing no hits, walks or runs, and he struck out two batters.
The following season, Jung played for the Rome Braves, making 53 relief appearances and going 1-4 with a 2.16 ERA. In 66 2/3 innings, he struck out 83 batters and saved 18 games.
He did not play in American affiliated baseball from 2004 to 2006 because he was serving his military duty in that time.
In 2007, he split time between the Myrtle Beach Pelicans (33 games) and Mississippi Braves (seven games). Between the two, he went a combined 0-2 with 23 saves, 57 strikeouts and a 1.30 ERA in 48 1/3 innings of work. His 22 saves were second-highest in Myrtle Beach history and earned him the Myrtle Beach Most Valuable Pitcher award for 2007. He led Braves farmhands in saves and was two behind Scott Roehl for the Carolina League lead.
Through July 15, 2008, Jung is 2-2 with a 5.35 ERA for the Mississippi Braves.
